#7 Slide (Cascade)
Observation Details
The following observations were made in haste and were not very thorough, but nonetheless demonstrated some concerns. We dug a pit to lookers left of the large boulder towards the top of the slide on Cascade, in the depression between the treeline and the boulder itself. Performed a rudimentary column test in 95cm of snow.
CT12 at 25cm on the weak layer between the last 2 snowfalls and the most recent rain even. Snow above the weak layer was unconsolidated. Snow along the ground was faceted, but did not notice collapsing there.
Again, these tests were made in haste, as we were avoiding the steepest terrain and stuck to low-angle pitches. Along the skiers left of the slide, we were scraping rocks almost to the bottom of the pitch. Please note again that this is not the most sound test as I am a novice in this area, but I hope this informs others to make more observations.
