Snow Observations on SE Slides of Armstrong
Armstrong
Triggered Avalanche
Slab
D1: Relatively harmless to people.
6" windslab/crust consistently breaking off on steeper wind loaded slopes. With larger pieces upward of bicycle size breaking off in the space between turns. Propagation was limited, but these smaller slabs could definitely push a skier in exposed terrain.
Observation Details
Snow on South Eastern slopes was heavily wind affected.
In More exposed areas the snow alternated between a windslab that was consistently reactive underfoot, and softer snow that provided good skiing.
The snow showed no far reaching cracks, but the top 4"-8" wind crust would consistently break away in 6"-3' chunks.
We decided to ski it but to try as best we could to avoid the more wind loaded areas and exposed areas.
