Bennies Boork Snowpack
Bennies Brook/Wolfjaw
Observation Details
A beautiful ski day!!
The storm snowpack from last week is consolidating (good and bad). There was sun crust until Noon until areas with direct sun loosened up the crust for spring like conditions.
Problem: Deep persistent slab. Thin crust 5mm at 10 cm above the ground sitting on 5cm of loose facets. At first did not concern me until the CT13 at that layer and a full propagation ECT at the same layer dropping 2-5mm revealing sugary snow.
Aspect N-NW (all I have looked at) Elevation (test at 2100 ft would like to do more pits at higher elevation and other aspects)
Warning: I think high end of Low but chose MODERATE on that aspect given the consolidation of the storm snowpack and the obvious transfer of energy deep in the snowpack.
Warning: Possible human trigger. D2+ (based on depth) Be careful and observant. Any cracking or whumphing on approach/climb beware. Previous tracks are not indicative of safe conditions as temperature crosses above zero and weak layer is lingering deep in the snowpack.
