Thin Conditions on Gothics North Face

Gothics North Face

Date & Time 1/24/2025 alternate_email 10:00 AM
Location Gothics North Face
Elevation & Aspect 3500' / Northwest
Mode of Travel XC Skiing/Snowshoeing
Red Flags Drifting Snow / Windloading

Observation Details

Extremely thin snow conditions observed on a bulk of the Gothics North Face with an exception of the far lookers left and lookers right areas near the trees/ vegetation (these areas varied between 10-60cm of unconsolidated snow on top of ice). A lot of the slide was 0-5cm of snow on top of exposed rock or extremely thin ice. We observed a few isolated pockets of windloading, mainly above 4k'. There may be concern in the future where windslabs or drifting snow can bond weakly to the exposed ice/ rock and be difficult to discern from a distance. There was a lot of northerly wind activity during the day, but not much snow for transport.
