Observation Details
Loose snow on top of rain crust began forming pockets of wind slab. Loading continued throughout the day with weekend snow available for transport, much spindrift and wind loading observed on lee slopes. Early Jan. rain crust is penetrable, “grabby” in some places but will support skiers in others with min. to no cracking underfoot. Skiing conditions variable, switching from wind scoured crust to pockets of powder to ice patches to pockets of still forming wind slab. Hand pits revealed wind slab of varying thickness with minimal reactivity.
