Observation Details
Went out to scope current state of snowpack at high elevation and were rewarded with good ski conditions for the most part. 40-50cm nominal snow depth, 30cm of new, light, dry snow over very hard 1-5cm thk rain crust(s), with rotten, icy, sugary snow underneath. Pit tests were inconclusive below the new snow layer as the crust layer was nearly impossible to saw through cleanly without disturbing the columns. New snow appeared to be well bonded to the crust.
This group skied the middle slide and no evidence of instability. Ski conditions were very good. Thin cover observed over the bottom half of the slide and the exit.
