Variable wind effect on Jackson
Jackson Slide
Observation Details
We saw wind effect in the top 2-3 inch, consolidated, non-cohesive snow. There was variabilty from foot to foot, The most concerning snow was a more reactive, non-energetic layer on the bench/break in the second cliff band. Lower elevations displayed more sign of wind effect/firmer top layer. higher up the slide the snow became more uniform. Parts of the upper slide had thinner cover over iceflows through the middle.
Around 11am we observed the wind change directions from the northwest to the southeast, we observed snow starting to move down the slide.
Pit results were ECT 19 with no propogations and no clean break, ~30cm from the surface, and an inconsitant break on the december rain crust 90cm down following additional motivation.
While on Avy Lake we noticed snow flagging off the summit of Colden, blowing off the top and towards lines like West Ramp
