Triggered Avalanche

Slab

D1: Relatively harmless to people.

two very shallow, maybe 3" deep slabs 15' across and only 15' long in two spots. It ran for barely 15 to maybe 20 feet. Both triggered by rider with no consequence

Observed Avalanche

Slab

D1: Relatively harmless to people.

very small that looked like it only ran for maybe 15 to 20 feet. Roughly 3" to 4" deep and 20' across.

Observation Details

lots of whumpfing and collapsing on walk up with shooting cracks in areas that were mostly bowled out depressions. Saw some snow shed from very steep terrain and had two small areas roughly 15' in diameter move while riding. The areas that were triggered were very shallow with only a couple inches of snow being set loose and not connected to larger terrain. Lots of hand pits dug all with same result of ground then sizable layer of facets, then crust layer, followed by another 1" facet layer followed by more crust and then fresh snow on top. Riding choices where made based on our observations and we stuck to anchored and safe areas and a fun day was had by everyone. Wind loading was observed as well.
